What Serials Are Coming to an End?

Raythe says …

Both Crimson (m/m retelling of Little Red Riding Hood with werewolves!) and The Merman 2 (m/m, merman romance) serials are coming to an end.

This is always an emotional time for me because I am a “method” writer where I really get into being in those characters’ heads and it always makes me sad to know I won’t be experiencing their world again (unless I do a remix or a sequel or an Avengers’ type story like Sanctuary 2 where everybody gets in the pool again).

But I had to remind myself that I’ve ended serials (not including the individual book series) 24 times before

You read that right. There are 24 completed serials on the site, some as long as 3 to 4 individual book lengths long or even longer (I’m looking at you, The Abyss and The Dark Earth, among others!).  Here’s the list:

  • Drakon
  • The Sea serial
  • The Erl-King: The Hunt (Jordan’s story)
  • The Deep Within

Vampires

  • Sanctuary
  • The Ghost Half

What WHY is Crimson coming to an end it isn’t long enough!!!!!!

    • Raythe July 9, 2017 at 10:20 pm #

It’s coming to an end, because the story is done for now. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it so well that you don’t want it to end.

      • susi July 10, 2017 at 5:49 am #

What – Why is it coming to an end. I thought now the story begins. Where is the war what should be coming between witches and wolves and the try to get jude as an iportant tool which Browyn said to Jude – Browyn alone that can it be all.

We know to little about Eira and the others. Judes uncle and his father they are have itself unwritten parts. And what is the truth behind the coucil – are they rogues or where they have the strength.

What is with the gardening thing and so lots of open questions.

And like I said I thought this story lead to a war between witches and wolves – the hints were in the story and jude just explore his talents – it will be nice to go along with him in that life.

I am sad now that this story is so short, but I understand you, when your charcater don’t read with you anymore then it’s nothing we can change – only time is the healing. I have characters too, they ignored me and came back – the longest wait I ever had were 15 years. Can you believe it. But he had no change in his life until 15 years later and then he came back to me to show me his life again…

I think either of those stories could have sequels though. The day to day life of a werewolf pack is bound to have some fun interactions with other supernatural beings…

    • Raythe July 9, 2017 at 10:23 pm #

Yeah, but we need something to be going on other than day to day life. Though that IS interesting. Also, we are trying to keep the number of sequels more limited so we have offerings that new members can get into the site through and give more variety to Members as well.

I think Cursed will always hold a special place in my heart, because it was not only the first serial i read on the site, but I was reading it while each chapter was being introduced, so I was experiencing its transformation as it was happening, rather than after it had finished. I even read the first Cursed novel in order to write a review for it. And my first fanfic for Raythe Reign was a Cursed fic, too! So, yeah, Cursed is definitely my favorite, and I look forward to reading through all of the Cursed novels when they are finished to see how it differs from the serials. Though, in terms of favorite scene, that is definitely a tricky one, because there are so many good ones! Though, I think the scene with Nick, Bane, Jade, and Omar actually enjoying their time together with chips, guacamole, and margaritas, like their own little family, is my favorite. It makes me smile and actually a little misty-eyed every time I read it!

(Though, I did enjoy reading Drakon as well, and would love to read more about their antics. I miss the First!)

    • Raythe July 9, 2017 at 10:31 pm #

Cursed 3 has been very long in coming, because so much stuff has been starting on the site and so much stuff ending. That means a ton more writing time and prep time which takes away from time to write on the individual novels, but it’s coming!

I’m thinking about doing some more dragon shifters stuff, but I’d like to work in a different world or different characters. I’m not sure yet.

  4. blaid July 9, 2017 at 10:19 pm #

I admit, I liked all your stories Raythe, although I was never here for all their starts or finishes, I admit given how I joined long after you started the Earl-King, Sanctuary, Dark Earth, Drakon, Pact. Lets say… a lot of your earlier stories. One of the first I recall, may have been Ghost Half or Pact 2.

Whenever you finish stories Raythe, it is a momentous event. It is heartbreaking, but at the same time, it is exciting. As one stories closes, you pave the way to the next and the next after that. You build a universe Raythe, where all these characters coexist in, even if they are not seen. There is always ever a chance, they would be seen again, you never close the door.

I await with suspense, Raythe, what you intend to replace them with. And I have more than a few ideas myself, hehe. As one chapter ends, Raythe, a new one begins. You never fail in that. I am forever your fan and friend in that regard, and you can never fear to ask my opinion.

    • Raythe July 9, 2017 at 10:37 pm #

Yeah with 24 of them over 7 years … I imagine a lot of people haven’t been.

As these were laid out, I realized that I’m always sad when stuff ended, but that I get so into the new stuff that it’s not as painful to stop writing those other stories. And I can always go back as you said. Still sad those.

      • blaid July 10, 2017 at 2:31 pm #

I can only wonder what you have planned next. Do you have plans for a future stories on other Great Ones as the main characters.

  5. Blak July 9, 2017 at 10:29 pm #

Those are the 2 stories that I do read…. i haven’t been able to get along with the others. I hope there will be sequels.

    • Raythe July 9, 2017 at 10:33 pm #

No sequels planned for these. You should try the others! Or go to some of the back stuff.

  6. Darkelfmage July 9, 2017 at 10:34 pm #

I like the merman and will miss it the most. It does have room for more stories though. So I look forward to being immersed in that world again.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:33 pm #

There are definitely more stories to tell there!

  7. Tammy Miller July 9, 2017 at 10:46 pm #

I found myself REALKT, REALLY enjoying the second Merman story.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:34 pm #

I’m so glad. I feel it is less romantic than the first and wondered if people liked it.

  8. Jessi July 9, 2017 at 11:07 pm #

My favorite will always be Drakon. I think I’ve read (and cried over) that story at least 15 times through the years. And always in a single sitting. Though, I also have a soft spot in my heart for the Dark Earth books. *Happy sigh*

I can’t wait until these two books are finished so I can read them. I’ve been in a spot where I can’t handle reading it as it comes out due to some bad stuff in my life, so I’ve been chomping at the bit waiting for these two to get done. Especially Merman 2!

Any idea when the books will be finished so I can mark my binge-reading on the calendar? 😀

    • Raythe July 9, 2017 at 11:28 pm #

I’m sorry that things haven’t been good for you! I hope things are improving.

Though I’m not necessary positive about this (as things can change), I expect Crimson to end first in about two months then Merman 2 after that in October. It may be earlier … though. I’ll keep up with posting when they’re done.

      • Jessi July 9, 2017 at 11:41 pm #

At least that gives me time to finish Camp NaNo and edit! *Squee* Though, I may have to save both for after November NaNo. Hmm…

And thanks. Your books help so much. They’re so involved and intense that it helps me escape just for a little while. Especially when I get to the point where I’m so burnt out that I can’t write in my own worlds. Hopefully things will get better, but it seems like a long road, especially when you lose your independence (totaled car, no money to get another one, social anxiety so I can’t use the bus, can’t afford a taxi, bleh) and have no friends to help keep my mind off it. So, in essence, your books and those of a few other M/M authors take the place of all that’s missing in my life right now. And I appreciate it more than I can say.

  9. Cjblack July 10, 2017 at 12:07 am #

I don’t think I could ever choose a FAVORITE story on this site. Each one is special and brings something lovely and unique to the table. It’s an impossible choice for me.

With that said, I’ve read Valkyrie and Ghost: Neo-Tokyo more than once. I love the unique concepts of both. I also have a soft spot for the Dark Earth series because they are the first stories I had read when I first joined. I also loved the original Erl-King story. Perhaps more so than The Fell (am I allowed to say that?)

Anyways…it is so bittersweet to see Crimson and Merman 2 coming to their end. They’re both awesome tales to finally have completed in your collection, but I will definitely miss reading new chapters.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 12:16 am #

Are you allowed to love Erl-King more than the Fell?!? … YES! I really think they are totally different stories now. I mean they are not the same at all and there are strengths and weaknesses in both of them. But that also means plenty to love.

Next week I’m going to be putting some ideas out there for what to do NEXT after these end. One of the stories I’m considering is another story in the Ghost universe.

I love the Dark Earth (though I find the second book problematic bc high fantasy and serial writing WITHOUT world building beforehand = no lol) because of the mixture of elves, monsters and the modern world. That was the first time I’d done that fully (The Erl-King did it somewhat, The Fell REALLY does it) and it still really speaks to me.

      • Cjblack July 10, 2017 at 3:59 am #

I fully support this! I would LOVE to see another story in the Ghost universe. I loved Tristan and Maeda to pieces.

I’d also like to see where Freyr, Jian, Longwei, and Kei ended up, since nothing ever seemed definite between them all.

Interest between Longwei and Conrad was mentioned in passing, I think? But I also recall Conrad saying his heart belonged to Freya.

I’m not a fan of love triangles. It hurts me and frustrates me. I would have no problem reading a polyamorous relationship between them but I hate to see people left cast-aside or heartbroken…. Maybe that’s the reality of life–not everyone gets their happy ending. But sometimes I just need the happy ending, ya know? Escapism, and all that.

I’m going off on a tangent. See what your stories do to a person?

Back to my main point. The two stories are obviously connected between Maeda and Kei, so bringing the two together would be really exiting to see. The familiar faces of characters we already know and love getting to interact (as they have in Sanctuary 2, for example), is always an appealing concept.

Unless, of course, you had plans of a fresh Ghost-Playground. Learning new characters is also enjoyable, after all. 🙂

        • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 4:31 am #

I have a story that would do BOTH. Introduce new characters and also resolve some of the other stuff. One thing at the site I must always consider is that we need a good mix of new stories and continuations so we can attract new members and keep old members happy and interested.

I feel like I want to do something that is Ghost, Shifters (like dragon shifters) or witches since we haven’t had that in a while. But I’m really open as nothing is sticking me like Ever Dark or Elven King’s Blade. Hope you guys will help me see the light!

  10. Homer July 10, 2017 at 1:14 am #

My favourite has been the Ghost series by far. I love all the worlds you create but there’s something about the mysticism, magic and excitement in the Ghost Stories that have stuck with me most. I hope you do another addition soon!!!

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:35 pm #

That’s going to be one of the options that I am considering. Next week I’ll tell you guys more.

  11. MrsEdwards July 10, 2017 at 1:36 am #

I was kinda excited to see how many serials ended! Because you always have something new up your sleeve Though I am waiting for a particular sequel *tosses drakon in air singing circus music and jaws*

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:36 pm #

Another dragon shifting story though not a sequel is another option!

  12. Ipodpixie July 10, 2017 at 2:43 am #

I will be sad when the Merman 2 finishes, I have really enjoyed both the first and second instalments of this. I would like to think you will return to the sea another time.

You have several finished stories I was sorry had finished, dark earth, abyss, ghost neo Tokyo and cursed amongst them. I wanted to like Drakon more and I still think it is great idea but it could use a little polish – no offence Raythe! I would like to see more magic or shifters or even magic shifters when you are thinking of starting a new story. A story involving time travel, back in time, might also make a good story.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 3:49 am #

There’s no offense! I actually think a lot about that with Drakon and want to go back to that story, but a complete remix or new characters. Next post we’ll start talking about what should come next. I have some ideas but I’m not altogether happy with them so I’ll want people’s thoughts on what they want to see next.

Time travel though is really hard for serial writing. You need to do a ton of research and unless you’ve plotted the whole thing out minutely it doesn’t work well. So that is probably off the table for my writing skills.

  13. Darkelfmage July 10, 2017 at 3:55 am #

I really really enjoy the merman 2. I do hope that you will have another story in that setting. There are so many options available. Like learning more about zed. Crimson has been a fun take on witches and werewolves and there is plenty of story telling left in that world for you to go back to as well. I am looking forward to new stories though. I will miss the mer story the most out of the two.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 4:33 am #

I could do another witch/shifter story in that universe (Crimson). That’s definitely an option.

There’s a lot to the Mer universe but I don’t have a strong story yet for them, but I’m sure one will come to me. Best to take a break and come back to it.

  14. Shiro July 10, 2017 at 4:31 am #

I would really like to see Pact 3 at some point. I mean we still don’t know what Nate’s uncle wanted at the end of Pact 2, not to mention all the other crazy stuff Nate and his friends are probably getting into.

Other than that I’m curious to see how the Cursed and Artifact books are going to end.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:37 pm #

You’re right that there were tons of questions that were not answered there. I don’t know if they will be in Sanctuary 2 or not or if there will be a pact 3.

      • Love to read August 30, 2017 at 7:45 pm #

Well I hope they will be answered some how. Either with Sanctuary 2 or a Pact 3 cause I SERIOUSLY NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!!!

  15. Rose Petit Frere July 10, 2017 at 5:31 am #

I really had to think about it for a minute and the series that I read 3x from start to finish isn’t even listed…”The Lightless”. It’s my all time favorite…wish more people loved ❤️ it as much as I do.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:38 pm #

Aw! It’s one of mine too but yeah it wasn’t loved as much because it’s a very different pairing.

  16. susi July 10, 2017 at 6:02 am #

    it’s really difficult to answer.

I mean I hadn’t read all stories so far and the books I read are awesome.

A special place in my heart are shapeshifter stories and M/M pregnancy. That stories are allways my thing.

So cursed and crimson are my top 1. But I loved the mermain story too, I think that was my entry to you, maybe it was Dark Earth. I didn’t knew it anymore. But I was facinated from all – the story – the pictures. I love manga art. Its so colourful.

I have read a few other stories to and all stories are special great in their own way. So I can’t really put it in a ranking.
Some stories I was interested in and then I was a little disappointed by the furthcoming. Other stories were uninteresting at the beginning and the furthcoming was surprising. Every story has its own feeling and way to go and thats a good thing and that’s why I like every storiy until now. Some more some less, but all are great in theire own way 🙂

Thank you a lot for your hardwork

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:39 pm #

Because we are ending two shifter series I feel like there’s a good argument for another shifter story but I’m drawn to other things too like witches and Ghost.

  17. Jediguy July 10, 2017 at 8:12 am #

I enjoyed almost all the series. However, 4 of the completions will always be in my heart. They are Abyss, Pact, Drakon, and Ghost. When you complete both Crimson and Merman, they definitely will join along with 4 other completions in my heart. I hope for more mini stories to check to see how these characters are doing.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:40 pm #

I might consider doing one in the crimson universe but on the witch side. That’s always a possibility.

      • Jediguy July 10, 2017 at 4:11 pm #

Just some of my thoughts. I wonder about historical stories. You may can create alternative stories based on actual history. Plus, you add your elements like magic, shifting, paranormal, vampiric, or something new to them. Also, you could make new stories with new characters in same universes. For example, Merman. A story to explain how Merfolk move to Earth from Outer Dark and their reason to move there.

        • Jediguy July 10, 2017 at 4:14 pm #

Ahh, it would be nice to see more stories based on global myths. I am a freak on fairy tales and myths. A male version of Cinderella?

  18. La'Sharna July 10, 2017 at 10:13 am #

The Abyss series and the Earl-King….I’ve really enjoyed those series, although I have to admit I enjoyed the originals a little bit more than their rewrites but hey they all pretty spectacular 😋 And I really would like to know more about Seren Balthasar, he intrigues me. A lot.
I’m loving cursed, and the original Dark-Earth was brilliant, the rewrite is just as good, I like your dominant males to be a tad bit aggressive.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:41 pm #

I’ve fallen into stuffed shirt syndrome a little bit in dark earth and want to fix that going forward. You’ve been here since the beginning and I love how you have such a different perspective!

  19. eustilly July 10, 2017 at 2:20 pm #

I really loved The Darkening and The Artifact. Dylan and Dane were intriguing protagonist, and both of their companions were likable.

    • Raythe July 10, 2017 at 2:44 pm #

I think both of them were very sweet characters with a lot of tragedy. I have to finish the Artifact series of books!

  20. River Iris July 10, 2017 at 5:54 pm #

I feel like each story holds a special place in my heart; good and bad place alike. I’ve said my love for ‘The Erl-King’ and ‘Sanctuary’ (and all stories related to it.) I wrote two fanfics for it (partly because Peter makes for a good coming of age candidate, my favorite genre). I could write poetry about how perfect the relationship between Sean/Dane is (both living through trauma and being united in their fight against their demons).

As I go down the list, most I’ve finished and some I still haven’t started after years of being here (I have a busy life, triggers, a lot to read outside RR, and a short attention span, O.K. …), I think about what I like and who want more of most. Anything that has to do with the above-mentioned stories, for the latter. For the former is when a character is comforting/comforted in a way that builds them up. Alric taking Jordan’s trauma and building something life-changing out of him comes to mind. Or Masa semi-adopting Caleb as his son while Caleb heals Masa just as much. I’m a sucker for hurt/comfort, and this site has its share. ♥

    • Raythe July 12, 2017 at 6:10 pm #

Hurt/comfort with so much angst is my love, too. I’m always so happy when people love the other characters beyond the main romantic couples. It means I did my job as an author! So thank you!

  21. Dai69 July 11, 2017 at 5:59 am #

The Pact is my favorite. I’ve read all your older stories and loved them besides one that I don’t find is my cup of tea. Just need to catch up on some and start the new ones. I love crimson. Kinda sad it’s ending so soon but if we’re to consider another sequel, I would love another Pact although there already is one. XP

    • Raythe July 12, 2017 at 6:13 pm #

The Pact has always made me happy writing it. There will be more about it for sure in Sanctuary 2.

  22. Mishiko Shinsei July 11, 2017 at 3:25 pm #

The Pact, hands down. Followed very closely by Dark Earth and The Abyss. I have re-read both Pact books at least 4 times since last March, both Dark Earth books 3 times since last June and I just finished reading Abyss for the second time since last May about two weeks ago. (I’ve actually read most of the completed serials at least twice.)

Please tell me the level of begging required to get the rest of The Pact universe told, and I will probably do it in multiples.

No, seriously. *gets down in knees, head to ground*

    – ‘Ko

    • Raythe July 12, 2017 at 6:15 pm #

Aw! There will be more of The Pact in Sanctuary 2 and I WILL go back to it, itself. But we have to have only so many sequels to new material so we have to have the proper ratio! But don’t despair.

  23. klara July 11, 2017 at 9:13 pm #

One of my most favorite stories is Drakon. I love these dragon shifters and would loved to read more about them 🙂 ♥ What I liked about it is interaction between main characters, one younger, more innocent but mature, one older and charming and “bad” guy who isn’t so bad at all 🙂 And Dragons of course!

    • Raythe July 12, 2017 at 6:16 pm #

I think you’ll be pleased with what I’m thinking of doing! More coming soon!

  24. Rose July 14, 2017 at 9:04 am #

Hi, I’m a relatively new member. I have read The Merman and was wondering if there is a recommended reading order for the rest of your books?

  25. Catalina1995 July 14, 2017 at 7:15 pm #

Anyway, I have a question if you do not mind. Will there ever be a story with these two?

    https://welcome.raythereign.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/RR-Slide-Format-2015-Angels1-1600×686.jpg

I’m thinking of something like this.

It’s about a world where angels live but just because in that world live angels it doesn’t mean they all have wings.Only the warriors have wings the rest of the angels have different kind of powers (they all have tattoo and different powers like the power to heal or the power to control the nature……..and so on.).In that world there were two friends a girl and a boy ,the boy was a warrior and the girl was the one who had the power to control (the nature or something like that i really don’t know what power to give her).

Anyway the girl goes to the human world and falls in love with a man, that man was the son of the chief of the tribe .His father was against the girl not having another solution he leaves ,after a year he comes back wounded with a child and begged his father to take care of him that was is last wish before he died. That boy always felt isolated from the rest of the tribe kids everyone hates him and thought he was a cursed because of the tattoos on his body .Most children did not come close to him, and those who did come they want to hurt him so he didn’t have a happy childhood ,at that time the girl’s best friend felt something was wrong with her and went to looking for her on earth.

But when he got to earth he immediately knew the girl had died but despite the fact she was sad the boy (warrior) he still felt a part of her remaining on earth so she didn’t lose hope and star to look for her again..

As the boy grows all around him started to die, they start to have less water and food .When it was 20 years old, all of the tribe were already desperate they had very little food and water ,and then decided to sacrifice the boy for earth to thrive because they all thought he was his fault .And when he was about to be sacrificed the warrior appears and saves him

Anyway it would be nice to be something like this.I don’t really know what powers to give them and I don’t now what name to choose for them i’m very bad at picking names, tell me what do you think??????????????I know there’s still a lot of detail to add to the story ,but I’m from Romania so of course that the story was thought in Romanian and when you try to write a story in another language it does not work well .
And that’s why I hope you understand the whole idea of the story

  26. Lyn Williams July 18, 2017 at 2:28 pm #

when will the rest of the Cursed series be on Amazon?
