No “I got the free story by signing up for the newsletter and knew I wanted to read others like that” option? One and two are close enough I guess.

I was given a copy of the first Merman book at a Katsucon Yaoi panel in Feb. 2016 and read it within a few hours. (‘Inhaled it is more apt!) After that, I read the first few chapters of the second Merman book (sorry, titles are escaping me at the moment!) and joined Raythe in Mar. 2016. Since then, I’ve finished every story available except ‘Deep within’ and ‘The artifact’ and have re-read several at least twice. (I’ve read ‘The Pact’ 3 times!) Much love to everyone involved in Raythereign! Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us!

      • Noelle March 16, 2017 at 7:43 pm #

The Artifact is awesome also! Definitely should read!

  2. Ipodpixie March 13, 2017 at 6:43 pm #

No ‘I saw Asher Vane and wanted to know more about him’

    • admin March 13, 2017 at 8:07 pm #

That is so funny – was it the “gay elves with swords” ad, by any chance?

      • Ipodpixie March 14, 2017 at 10:45 pm #

        Most certainly!!!!

  3. Natasha Barlow March 13, 2017 at 7:08 pm #

I discovered the merman book series by chance on amazon if my memory serves right and it went from there. Havent looked back ever since lol. πŸ™‚

    • Aikochan13 March 14, 2017 at 6:35 pm #

      Haha! Same!
I would say a combination of all four answers. I loved reading the backlog. I love the variety in the different genres. I LOVE being able to comment and actually enteract with the author…
But my first contact was the mermaid series on amazon.

  4. Jih22 March 13, 2017 at 7:26 pm #

I found Cursed and Dark Earth Manga on Amazon. There was a note at the end of Dark Earth 5? I think it was, that stated that Amazon didn’t support/allow certain types of content so to get full content then to visit Raythereign.com…so I did and worlds opened up to me. I have been loving it ever since.

    • Xandulia March 14, 2017 at 11:31 pm #

Same for me! I needed more like Dark Earth and so went on the site. Sooo glad I did.

  5. Samantha March 13, 2017 at 7:53 pm #

I was looking for something to read on amazon, that’s when I stubbled on the merman. I found a link to the site to buy the books so I did. After that I started reading the first five chapters of darkon and Sanctuary that’s what made me get the memebership. I love it.

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 12:34 am #

Another Merman lover! Sweet! Glad that back matter … well, matters! We’re going to update that and keep it fresh and on point.

  6. CarolineMcc March 13, 2017 at 8:59 pm #

My problem is that I could vote on at less three of these answers together. I love that I can get a chapter every other day like a newspaper, I that there is a mass of books in the archives I can go back and read, and I also love that I can comment and get a reply from the writer themselves. So I don’t know what to pick?

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 12:33 am #

I totally get why its hard to choose. I think (though I may be way wrong) that people sign up for a single story and then they discover all the other stuff that they end up liking.

  7. Sara Ella March 13, 2017 at 11:00 pm #

I loved Dark Earth story and the manga too! Merman audio is AWESOME. Erl King-my first fave! There are so many good stories that it is soooo worth the subscription! I am not very good at commenting – love that idea though. πŸ™‚

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 12:32 am #

Thank you! I’m glad that the individual books and manga are drawing people in. It’s practically impossible to know from tracking. I write the books for fun but to know it converts the site makes me way happy.

  8. River Iris March 13, 2017 at 11:22 pm #

It started with Deviantart, went on to the free chapters of ‘The Abyss’ and snowballed from there. To-be-honest I love(d) how you make each person feel uniquely alive. Anarion seeing Abaddon when he’s young only to find him when he’s grown up and everything that goes along with it. Or making incest somehow work, and werewolves interesting (I’ve since changed my mind on them because of ‘The Erl-King’). By then I was already subscribed, but oddly enough it was Sean from ‘The Artifact’ that made me want more. He’s not my absolute favorite character, but at the time I’d been overloaded by BDSM being everywhere. I don’t mind reading that from time to time, but like anything, too much burns me out quick. Sean didn’t treat Dane like a toy or a pet (as so many stories seemed to think that’s what it’s all about). That this is counterpointed by Branish still makes me smile. Real life doesn’t let me read much, i.e. my computer has been acting up for months, but when I get a chance to log in, I get what I pay for: worlds and characters that have rare equal anywhere else. β™₯

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 12:30 am #

While I have a “habit” of having older and younger guys paired, ahem, to me another of my habits is to have the younger guy be really powerful both in the relationship and in real life. That means to me that you have to enjoy the characters as they are without having them just fit into nice little slots.

  9. Chelly March 13, 2017 at 11:24 pm #

I honestly can’t remember what brought me to the site, it was so long ago. Read the free chapters for Abyss and fell in love with the style. Of course Abyss really changed from those first chapters, I think there were two rewrites? I still have the emails for the chapters and re-read them at times.

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 12:20 am #

I’m so amazed (and happy, grateful, all that good stuff) about how many members that have stayed with us for YEARS. Not only do you guys rock, but it makes me feel … gah, the emotions are too complex. I literally think about you all every single day. What can we do to make this better? What will they think of these chapter updates? Will they like the new story? What about that person’s pleasure/displeasure? So to know that the same Members have been there for so long is just … YAY!

  10. Nightrage March 14, 2017 at 1:08 am #

I clicked on an ad for ‘The Darkening’ cause The horns and wings on the character looked interesting. I never looked back after the first chapter.

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 2:42 am #

That is a great image. I still think about that story … with the desire to “fix” it. Lol!

  11. Rose March 14, 2017 at 1:33 am #

I bought Dark Earth 1 from amazon on a whim and on the back there was an promo code to try the author website for a penny..that penny has become an $100 investment that I gladly make yearly. I love soo many series on this site that i feel i get the better deal out of that bargain..KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK RAYTHE!!!

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 2:42 am #

Thank you! Its so rewarding to know how many people did and continue to give us a shot. I’m so glad to have each and every one of you as members.

  12. Faolin March 14, 2017 at 4:02 am #

I used to follow another M/M serial writer, who couldn’t continue due to medical issues. Think I ended up googling for M/M (paranormal?) writers & stumbled across the site. Tried the free chapters of The Abyss, & got totally hooked! Absolutely love this site and the writing, the art etc, it’s the whole package really…

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 7:27 pm #

The Abyss has been a work horse for me in terms of members even though it all started off with the phrase, Vampires is space!

  13. Ceit March 14, 2017 at 4:23 am #

I’m another one of the Amazon hookups. A good sign to keep releasing your stuff there !!

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 10:43 pm #

Clearly! It’s just adding what is the equivalent of a book a month to the site, all the other stuff with the site, AND the day job, I can only fit in so much “extra” writing for individual books. But that is definitely a way we need to go to reach more people.

  14. Jessi March 14, 2017 at 5:48 am #

It’s really hard for me to answer this. My friend let me borrow her subscription to read because I was depressed. And I was so depressed that I didn’t WANT to enjoy the story, but I was sucked right in. The first book I’d read, I can’t even remember the name of. It was the first book with Asher and Aidan, and I had complained mightily because it stopped and I wanted it to continue. I saw that Raythe had started writing The Dark Earth instead, and I had felt so *betrayed* that I stopped reading altogether.

And then I got curious. And read The Erl-King. But I was so miffed at the first book, and even though I was so drawn in by The Erl-King, I didn’t want to give it a chance and picked it apart even though deep down I loved it. And then I saw that Raythe had started on The Fell, and again I felt betrayed. And again, I’d stopped reading for a few months.

Then it was like a freaking beacon. I kept dreaming about Alric and Asher and Aidan and the artwork, that I came back and gave Drakon a try. And I never looked back. After reading Drakon and the first book with Abaddon and Anarion (even though I again felt betrayed that that story was abandoned for a new version), I was so hooked that I deleted my friend’s account information and signed up for myself. That was back in May 2013, and that betrayal had turned into wonder and then into my crack.

I miss those old stories. I can’t find any of them except for the Erl-King. But that’s how I came. I stayed because of two reasons:

    1. Because the writing kept getting better. My only beef now with the stories is I have to keep stock in Kleenex and food. I swear Raythe is trying to make us all starve with her descriptions of food, and dehydrate from the combination of gut-wrenching emotions and hot scenes.

    2. It’s clear that Raythe genuinely enjoys and listens to her fans, and that’s something special. She not only listened and replied to my pitiful rants, but gave me writing advice that actually made things click, and made it possible for me to finally start completing stories, instead of having half-finished crap that I didn’t know what to do with. It’s thanks to Raythe that I now have four books published, more bubbling up in that series, and another 9 book series in the works.

I don’t tend to read serially much anymore. I generally wait until the book is finished, or nearly so before diving in (I’m an impatient little turd), but I keep my subscription active, and I often come back to re-read all the completed books. It feels like coming home.

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 7:31 pm #

When I first began, I rewrote several pieces that I did not complete: The Dark Earth and The Abyss. The Erl-King finished and then I did a remix which is far more popular. But those other stories I should have just pushed through but I felt they needed to be fixed so badly and I had the ideas for the fixes that I couldn’t keep writing them. Thankfully, with many millions of words under my belt, I’ve never had to do that again and never will. Part of letting perfection go and growing as a writer. I took down those other versions because of Members who started those and didn’t realize they were replaced so it was too confusing. It NEVER occurred to me that people would feel betrayed, because in my mind the redone story was going to be so much better. Lesson learned.

I’m glad if I’ve done any little thing to inspire other writers. These were things I learned after slogging through on my own and wish someone had told me.

      Thank you for your support!

  15. ddarkbloom March 14, 2017 at 11:34 am #

I used to be subscribed to another M/M serial fiction site. I did like it. It was my first experience purchasing fiction in this way. But I found it a little pricey for what I was receiving. Updates were not often and it was a bit of a roulette. I would wait for ages for an update and when it came I never knew if it would be for a story I actually enjoyed.

I think I found Raythe Reign on an advertisement on another fiction site. The free chapters are absolute genius. I had no intention of purchasing another subscription after paying so much for one that I was only mildly satisfied with but after going through all the free chapters I was hooked. I love the schedule and knowing exactly what I’m looking forward to in the month. I love the variety of art being produced (prose, illustration, manga, audiobooks). I love the community spirit with the gift exchange and blog that just foster enjoyment of this content with other likeminded people.

I’m so grateful that I came across Raythe Reign (even with all the tears over the angst and the pining for the next chapter and the days where I am super tired because I spent all night rereading my favourite story).

    • Kat March 14, 2017 at 11:45 am #

This is why we do all the free stuff – so you really know what you’re getting. We want people to be able to make an informed decision about how they’re spending their hard-earned entertainment dollars.

  16. Dee March 14, 2017 at 3:07 pm #

I stumbled upon your Dark Earth series while browsing my Nook options. I read one chapter and was solidly hooked. I looked up the site and signed up to be a member the very same day.
    Love your work!πŸ’•

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 7:32 pm #

Thank you so much! We never knew if the manga would sell the site. It was just the desire to create something beautiful that made us continue to put it out there.

  17. Jediguy17 March 14, 2017 at 3:22 pm #

Merman is how I got my way to sign up for membership. After I read Merman, I did yearn for more of your writing style. I went to your site to check it out, then I noticed Abyss and started to read the sample of it. When I was done with all the sample of many stories, I am already fond of your works. However, I was unable to sign up for membership until I came into my bill-paying cycle. Once I finally signed up for it, I spent many days reading many stories in the first month. ItΒ΄s worth my money!!!!!!

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 10:48 pm #

Another Merman and Abyss! It seems like giving people more samples than just one is the way to go.

Thank you so much for using some of your hard earned cash with us. We really appreciate it and try to put it right back into the site.

  18. Jediguy17 March 14, 2017 at 3:24 pm #

Oh yea. After I read Merman, I did make a simple painting based on this story.

    • admin March 14, 2017 at 6:15 pm #

Did you post it anywhere, like dA or something?

  19. Raine March 14, 2017 at 7:05 pm #

I was hunting for M/M fantasy (it’s really hard to find good stuff) and I came across the dark earth on Amazon. I bought it and I read about the free trial at the end. First I read the first 5 chapters free of a bunch of the stories to get a feel for them. It was The Pact that got me hooked: I simply had to know what happened next! Also, I feel it’s important for you guys to know, I never would’ve signed up if PayPal wasn’t an option. I’m really skeptical of using my credit card online, so it was reassuring that the option was there πŸ™‚

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 7:33 pm #

It’s really good to know that you felt Paypal made it safer to sign up with us. We want to give people whatever options we can.

  20. Shelle March 14, 2017 at 7:11 pm #

I hoped that you would finnish star wars story. I fell in love with your writing when you did fanfiction and its only gotten bettet. I went back and re-read that story not long ago.

    • Raythe March 14, 2017 at 7:33 pm #

I wish I could but I have no time for non-site work!

  21. Beschu March 14, 2017 at 7:39 pm #

I followed different stories on AFF, some got published and some were not updated in a long time, so I searched for new ones and run out of interesting stories. Saw an add on AFF and took a look, was interested and subscribed for the eMail chapters of Abyss… I coldn’t wait for new chapters, had to know what happend next, looked at the price and the payment system (PayPal) and signed up.

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 10:49 pm #

We’ve always felt like if the story is compelling enough that people will be like: give me more! That seems to be true.

  22. Rebecca March 14, 2017 at 8:16 pm #

I was looking for m/m novels. I wanted something more than just manga. I found the Dark Earth novel, the old one and I fell in love with your writing.

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 10:51 pm #

When we first started it was mostly manga out there and less prose. I’m so glad that you found the stories.

  23. Reisuke March 14, 2017 at 8:37 pm #

for me it was volume one of the dark earth for kindle on amazon, it sat on my kindle for months before i finally broke down and bought book two which was what finally snagged me on the story, and it was a rapid downhill spiral from there!!!

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 10:51 pm #

We like to say we are the drug dealers of the yaoi universe …

Lol! When I see the Dark Earth manga, its like the story came alive all on its own.

  24. NTschoTschi March 14, 2017 at 11:59 pm #

I first stumbled across RaytheReign through a link on a fan fiction site, though I can’t remember which one… Started reading into quite a few of the stories, and by the time I got to chapter 5 of both Dark Earth and Sanctuary I felt this website was well worth the membership fee, especially since I only subscribe during the winter (don’t have much time for reading in summer, but love a romantic yet exciting story when I do get the time for it…)

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 11:01 pm #

Winter is awesome to curl up with a good story and forget everything! Curl under blankets with the cat, have the cat sit on computer or tablet … lol! I’m so glad you choose to join us.

  25. LadyDe March 15, 2017 at 2:31 am #

I was on another website and kept seeing this banner with beautifully drawn artwork about vampires in space…hot looking vampires and in space!! Right up my alley. It was the Abyss. I read the free chapters and was hooked. I looked around and found the other stories and realized that they were serials and were just what I liked to read, paranormal beings doing sexy things and battling evil. Yum yummy. So I signed up. I have not been disappointed. I love the stories and the details and the emotions. And the artwork for each story so beautiful. I’ve gotten so wrapped up in the characters trials and tribulations that I go into withdrawal when the story ends (Liked Ghost: HKT). Then I find out that a part 2 is coming and I literally can’t wait. I can’t pick a favorite because each one I read becomes dear to my heart. And the Winter Haven cross-overs are brilliant. But can we get a new Ghost (whatever city) sometime this year or is Ever Dark taking up that slot? Don’t rush, though ’cause if you write it, I’ll read it and love it. Thanks for all of you and your teams hard work. It’s much appreciated by me.

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 11:03 pm #

I have actually 2 more stories planned for the Ghost universe. One will tie up all the loose ends (so it will be AFTER the next story) and one will introduce yet another couple that will show how dystopian it is for the people without money or family to protect them when they get Ghost.

  26. Shandra Torbett March 15, 2017 at 3:09 am #

I was seduced by an ad on a roleplay site. LOL

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 11:03 pm #

Kat does the ads and they make me think: are we that cool? Are we as good as the artwork?

  27. Kristy Williams March 15, 2017 at 1:30 pm #

I found out about this wonderful site after I bought the book Transformation. I read bought and read the whole series in a couple of days. I loved it and wanted to read more from the author! When I went to the web site the book recommended I was so excited! I have enjoyed every story I have read. The author writes in such a way that the worlds in the book just open up. It is easy to “see” these worlds and become invested in the lives and experiences of the characters. Thank you for the opportunity to see the worlds you have created. I look forward to to more story’s and re-reading the ones that I have already read. Please never close this site down. I would be sad to never be able to re-read some of these stories. Like losing and old friend.

    • Raythe March 17, 2017 at 3:09 pm #

I don’t ever intend to. Believe me that when I consider not having RR the world goes bleak.

  28. a_h- March 15, 2017 at 6:51 pm #

I found RR with an internet search looking for father/son incest. I’m very particular and most of what’s out there in that theme is terribly conceived and written, but RR had exactly what I was looking for in the Erl-King. Then I checked out the other stories and loved most of them, too! I love this site. The stories are just what I want to read and immerse myself in.

    • Raythe March 17, 2017 at 3:09 pm #

You were actually looking for it?! A person of my own heart. Lol! That’s awesome.

  29. Faranae March 15, 2017 at 7:45 pm #

I think I actually clicked on a Project Wonderful ad or something on one of the webcomics I read (most likely Artifice). Then there was a copy of the Artifact in exchange for a newsletter sign-up. When I had some extra cash, I signed up during a sale. Now I am sad because I had to let my sub lapse at the end of February because I haven’t had enough time to read and money is tight again. πŸ™ The only good thing is I saved my Merman books for when I would inevitably run out of spare cash. So those will have to get me through until a sale or an improvement in my finances.

    • Raythe March 15, 2017 at 11:04 pm #

We’re going to have another sale so that’s coming. I get it totally. I’m so honored that people spend what little entertainment cash they have with us. So we’ll look forward to having you back.

  30. La'Sharna March 16, 2017 at 12:02 pm #

I saw the artwork on DeviantArt and decided that when the site was finally up I’d join… that was 6-7 years ago I think… haven’t looked back, I had a hiatus from the site when I was really sick but I’ve been a member ever since. I love Raythe’s stories and the artwork, and I’ve enjoyed seeing her grow as a writer.

    • Raythe March 17, 2017 at 3:11 pm #

You were the first person I didn’t know that signed up. The third member on the site! So glad you’ve been here. I’m so sorry you were sick. Hopefully you are better.

  31. N'Prince March 16, 2017 at 7:57 pm #

First thing that drew me was The Fell add I saw on FB. After reading the first 5 chapters I HAD to get the membership to read the rest of this story, & have been in love since!! I didn’t even realize how much material was on the site ’till I got the membership & have been OBSESSED (Seriously. You can’t say I don’t read this stuff every chance I get no matter where I am) with pretty much every story to some degree. Reread Sanctuary & Drakon at least 6 times & have multiple tabs opened to stories at the same time (right now it’s like 5) so I can read them all at once LOL. This world of M/M has done its job in satisfying my not so guilty pleasure πŸ˜‰ Raythe is blessed! xp

    • Raythe March 17, 2017 at 3:12 pm #

We have such a problem letting people know how much material there is on the site. Writing Sanctuary 2 is letting me experience all of the joys of many of the other stories. Not all of them but many.

  32. keith March 17, 2017 at 1:08 pm #

I had to check Raythe’s website after reading her fanfictions (Guardian Devil and Forbidden). After reading the free chapters of The Erl-King and The Abyss, I couldn’t go back. The quality of the stories was so much higher than 99% of the fanfictions I could ever find, and they were everything I was looking for.

In a few days I will celebrate my 5th year as a member <3

    • Raythe March 17, 2017 at 3:13 pm #

We are so glad to have you!!!

  33. Emily March 15, 2018 at 9:46 pm #

So my friend recommended me to RR since they were her favorite author. I checked Amazon and only found the Cursed series. Downloaded the first book since it was free and left it unread for a while. I thought to myself, “Not that many books out on Amazon by them. There’s a lot of more stuff I need to read right now.”

Fast forward several months later, I downloaded the first book of the Merman series and was hooked. And then I found out about the site. “OH,” I thought to myself. “Now I get it.” After finishing the merman series, I read the Erl-King. I’ve only been a member for like three days and I finished every word of The Erl-King in a day. It was that good. I honestly felt so weird about the incest that I thought I would hate it. But nope. The characters drew me in and something about the relationship between Alric/Ethan just hit me in the right spot. I cannot wait to start The Fell!

Now I’m reading The Abyss series and slowly working my way through the completed serials. I’m so happy to have found this site. I’m always looking for new M/M authors and after the horrible betrayal of Santino Hassell, I was really struggling to trust another author, especially one who wanted me to pay for a membership. But after researching how much you get, it’s such a great value and RR really deserves the $$. She has an amazing gift to make these rich, vibrant worlds that you get sucked into and be with characters you always want to spend time with.

This site is such a blessing. I’m going through a hard time in my life right now, but these novels let me escape and I know what I’m getting. Never do I have to worry about a story not being finished or a crappy ending for the couple. RR serials are like crack and I’m heavily addicted. You’ve definitely earned a new fan from me!
