Take our quick little poll!

Raythe loves audiobooks.  The only time Kat’s listened to an audiobook was when she had to distract herself from migraines.  What about you?

I enjoy audio books as my eyes grow older, but a narrator can turn me off to the book, plus just an add expense. .

I love listening to them, and its so neat hearing the characters come to life through a talented voice actor. But yes, there are narrators that can turn me off, too.

I agree with Lurline on all counts adding with Raythe’s comment about talented voice actors.

Love your writing and stories. Particularly like The Fell, Sanctuary and the Ghost series. I do wish Freyr had NOT gone with Kei in Ghost: Hong Kong Triad, very disappointing because as much as I love your stories, they do follow a formula and if you know the formula you know the outcome. The Hong Kong Triad Ghost story didn’t start out following that formula, which made it unpredictable, and very interesting and satisfying….but, it ended up that way. Wish you’d stuck with the unpredictable story line though.

About GHKT, I understand your feelings on this. I wasn’t even planning on having Kei in that book, but then it happened, and they seemed the most compelling couple. I’m dissatisfied with that serial, tbh. It didn’t go how I wanted. But there it is!

I’m listening to m/m audiobooks almost every day (when I’m on my way to/from work or when I’m going to sleep).
It’s around a year I’m extensive listening to audiobooks.
Some years ago I already bought a few but the selection for m/m was not so big like it is now (in my own language is the selection almost none).
I still love to read books but thanks to audiobooks I can still enjoy the m/m world when I’m unable to read.
I also have to admit that some narrators are very talented and give a book some kind of life thanks to their voices (but it also goes both ways unfortunately. A bad narrator (sorry) can make me not enjoy an audiobooks which I loved when I read it myself).
Thanks to audiobooks I also try different kinds of genre because I like a narrator so much. ^_~

I really have almost completely turned from reading to audio, because I spend so much time in front of a screen as it is. Though there is something very satisfying about turning everything off and simple READING. But audio is like someone telling you a story, acting it out for you. And I can “read” with my eyes closed!

I enjoy audiobooks very much but have to admit that the narrator plays a huge role for me. If the voice reading the story somehow clashes with what I imagine the characters sound like in my head it can be off putting to me.
I mostly buy my audiobooks on amazon and then only if I have the ebook too because that is the only way the audiobook is affordable in my opinion. Like if you only buy the audiobooķ it costs like 20 euros but if you buy the ebook for like 4-5 euros you can add the audiobook for another 3-5 euros. And around 10 bucks is what I am willing to pay for it. Not more. That’s my take on audiobooks.

They are expensive to buy (though through Audible credits, its good for me). But on the other hand, they are really expensive to make. And quite frankly, Audible/Amazon/Apple take over 60% of the cost, they determine the cost, etc. So, while I have never failed to earn out on them, the cost doesn’t go to the producer of the audiobook but really the middlemen who do little to nothing.

Narrators are the key. I’ve been very lucky with those I’ve had the chance to work with. I’m having fun with Matt on Vampire’s Club.

I listen to audio books all day everyday at work. I work with my hands so this way I can keep up with my various series and favorite authors.

I have what amounts to auditory dyslexia. I can’t listen to standard audiobooks because I have to concentrate so hard that I get headaches. If I get distracted, the words turn into absolute gibberish.

The handful of audiobooks I have successfully completed are what’s called “full cast audiobooks.” They have sound effects and multiple actors reading parts in addition to the narrator, kind of like an old-school radio show. I’ve had better success with those for some unknown reason.

However, in addition to being virtually nonexistent in m/m (they are insanely expensive to do), those versions are still spoken MUCH more slowly than I usually read. I’d end up reading far fewer books overall.

I love audiobooks!!! I listen every chance i get and when I found the merman series on audio I was over joyed. I have a commute so it’s great throwing it on and listening. I also found when I do get to sit down and thumb through a book I turn on audio and read along.
