Elven King’s Blade Creature Feature: Rail Hound

Raythe says …

On the site, we are in the middle of the three chapters of The Elven King’s Blade, our gay high fantasy romance, for the month and we’re just getting started with the action.  So it is REALLY appropriate that we all see our next creature!

It is …

The Rail Hound!

Now these beasties run in packs of a minimum of three and a maximum of a dozen.  But seeing even one of these would likely cause me to pee myself.  Their snouts are wreathed in fire and they can take a licking and keep on ticking.

To really give you an idea of their size, Mathia Arkoniel drew a human in comparison,  but then Mathia said, “You see those arrows in the middle hound?  Yeah, they came from this.”

So no mere crossbow can take them down. You need a ballista! Or a Blade …

Tell me what you think in the comments and know that the SECOND awesome fan-created monster will be posted soon. Oh, and I WILL be introducing some of your ideas in the chapters this month. Can’t wait to hear what you think!

🤔Just curious, How tall is the human in that comparison image?

I’m pretty sure that the Rail Hounds would be bigger than me anyway. I’m about 5’2″ without heels on.

I wouldn’t want to run into one of them. 😱 Let alone 3 or more of them.

    Scary. 😖
    Nicely done.😉

…Suddenly I want someone to go riding a Rail Hound. Like, this would literally make me SO HAPPY.

Think of scouts on these guys, wielding fire magic or crazy phosphorous that burns the soul. Or lightening mages.

Sure. Because what badass human-sized wolves need is riders wielding lightening.

    Yep.

I’m reminded of the Warg battle scene from “The Two Towers.” The sounds of the wargs was terrifying as was their sheer size. I love the name “rail hounds” and that they can take multiple strikes from ballistae while still fighting. I get the impression that their bites leave behind nasty burns on top of teeth and jaw damage. This wreaks havoc on a battlefield. Seriously though, guys, Mylanta works wonders on heartburn and maybe cut back on the habanero pizzas. Excellent work, I’m most impressed with the artwork!
