Ask Raythe Anything!

Raythe says …

Kat and I were discussing what the next blogs/vlogs/videos etc. should be, and I thought:
Why don’t we just ask everybody what they want to hear us talk about?

So we are going to do an Ask Me Anything.

For those of you who don’t know, you can ask me (Raythe) anything you want, about the stories, the site, etc., and I will try to answer it the best I can.  You can ask stuff like…
  • How did you come up with Alric?
  • Have you ever considered writing a ghost story?
  • What’s your favorite video game and why?

I know that a lot of you want to know what happens next in stories, but since what happens changes based on your comments, and I don’t want to spoil, don’t ask those types of questions.

We’ll answer them in the next upcoming weeks and months, if we have that many.

Can’t wait to hear from you in the comments!
– Raythe

    I have a couple 🙂

Do you need complete silence to write or do you like background noise (ie. Music, at a coffee shop, tv, etc)?

How long on average does it take you to write a chapter?

Ethan and Scott had mentioned knowing Nate, do you intend for them to find out what has happened with him? (I know this is oddly worded but I’m trying to avoid spoilers haha)

I have a few as well.

What inspiration do you pull from when you create a new story? Is it just one source for ever udea for a few sources?

What made you decide to write a few chapters for multiple stories a month instead of just dedicating one solid month for one single story?

    Hi Raythe,

I wanted to know if this is your full time job? If it is how long did it take you to build income from your story writing so that you could quit your 9-5? How long were you writing seriously before starting the site? I would also like to know what first got you interested in male romance? Thank you so much for this opportunity to ask questions!

    Regards,
    Yaoifan

    Hi Raythe, hi Kat,

I’m so happy you are giving us the opportunity to ask any question we want^^ So I’m really going to ask holes in your stomache^^

I was wondering how the amazing Artwork between you and Mathia comes to be. Is it like you telling Mathia what you want to see? Or are you brainstorming togehter what will best represent the characters? Or is she taking your descriptions from the story and just doing her thing? Also I’m really curious how long it takes Mathia to create one full colour Artwork?

Do you write the chapters in one go or do you write them bit by bit over the days between the chapters?

How do you keep track of all the ongoing storylines and chapter so you don’t get confused when writing multibel storys at once?

Do you have a complete outline of each story finished befor starting to write or do you make up the story as you go? If it is the first how are you able to integrate our ideas from the comments so well into the storys?

Also I’m from germany and I sometimes see you use expressions that familiar to me and not so comon in America so I was wondering if you had german ancerstors? You dont need to answer this one if it is to personal^^

Thats all I can think of for now but maybe other comments that will come later will insire me for more questions^^ So I probalby will be back^^

    Yours faithfully Smint45

Are you considering another Space scifi story? (Please say yes…)
I’ve been hankering for another good story based in space. You did such an excellent job with space vampyrs (which let’s be honest… Could have been a disaster…)

How do you plot out universe creation? How indepth are your plans for the universe of the story before you start writing and how much do you come up with as you need for specific plot?

What areyou planning to do with your older completed books like Drakon or Ghost Neo Tokyo?

Will you ever let characters from other stories meet? For instance character from Dark Earth meeting characters from The Pact

My, my, my ask anything…. The mind boggles with possibilities.

Is your ideal man (if you have one) reflected in your male characters?

How did you put your team together? Were you friends first or did you advertise? You all seem more mates than co-workers plus I would love to see the ad you ran if you did!

Normally I’m a true Scot Raythe which means I hang onto money jealously but I have been happy to pay for access to your site for years now and I continue to be thrilled with your writing and your use of beautiful long haired men mmmmmhhhhhh!

I’ve been taking a ‘reading anything on the computer hiatus’ for a few months because I get burned out on anything if I focus too heavily on it for too long. So my question(s): Do you get burned out on writing so much? And if not, why? How do you keep going? Friends? Comments on your stories? Rollercoaster like Gil on ‘CSI’ =3?
Still love your work, even if I haven’t read it in a while. ♥

    Hallo!

As I found you through a ProjectWonderfulAd on The Young Protectors webcomic (years ago now), do you read lgbtq fantasy/superhero/sci-fi webcomic yourself? If yes, which is your favourite one, the one you get anxious whenever they go on hiatus, or even are hours late on their update day? And do you flood(?) their comments box on every page? (under an anonymous/guest username maybe) I tend to do that once in a while… m(__)m

Tscüß and thanks for this cool opportunity! b^^d

    Got a question for Mathia.

How did you come up with designing on characters’ clothes? For example, Neo Tokyo(both the first and second stories of Neo Tokyo). I saw pictures of the men in awesome clothes. The clothes are drew so beautiful and complicated to be designed that way. It got me wondering like did you go to a school for fashion or study fashion on your own?

Who are some of the other authors you read?

I love your site! I also really enjoy your audio books. Are you going to put merman 2 on audio as well? Hopefully with the same wonderful narrator? I was also wandering if you could put Sanctuary, Gost half, WHCC on audio as well? They are all long enough but not too long. That would make my dreams come true!

Which of your stories would you like to see become a movie, Tv Show, stage play, or YouTube series? Who would you cast, if it were up to you and who would you want to direct it?

  16. Keith April 19, 2018 at 7:58 am #

Oh my oh my, yes I have a lot of VERY SERIOUS questions to ask!!!

    – Who would win in a fight between Alric and Asher?
    – And who would win in a fight in the air, between Fallon and Liam?
    – Did Cameron ever drew Thorki fanarts inspired from the Marvel movies (before he knew about Valkyries and stuff), and if so did Loki find them (and possibly steal them)?
    – I’m also wondering if you have a favorite villain in your stories? What about your favorite side-kick character?? (yes you have to chose between all your children!!)

  17. Keith April 19, 2018 at 8:03 am #

    wait i have more questions!
    – What TV Shows do you like?
    – Do you have any favorite fanfictions that you recommend?
    – How many members are there on RR? I really have no clue, I only see those who comment. (but if it’s private information you prefer not to share it’s ok!)
    – Is there any chance your published books will be translated into other languages someday? (in french?)

Boy, can people go wild with a “Ask Raythe Anything” said. 🙂

    So here are mine: 😉

I know and everyone knows you have Fur Babies, have you ever wanted to right a book just about werecat based off of your babies? Just so you know I have 5 and I think I could write one just off of their personalities. Or is that what Cursed is about.

I love writing, but I always finding something that bugs me about what I write. How do you get over that hump? For example: A coyote character meet a rabbit character for the first time. I had the coyote as a Native American student and the rabbit as a small professor of biology. Every time I wrote their meeting I just couldn’t write what I was thinking and like it.

I love creating things, I quilt, knit, and sew. I know writing is that for you. But like me with fabrics you create beautiful worlds that you allow your reads and subscribes to partake in. Are there times that you want to escape into another world yourself?

On a personal note Raythe, I would like to thank you for the beautiful worlds you do create with your words. They are fun and lively, serious and sweet, and most for all heart warming. Thank you for the love you show and share in each story.

    Hi Raythe and Kat,
Are you are a Star Wars fan?

  20. ChibiSqueaks April 20, 2018 at 6:41 am #

Hello! First time commenting! First I was wondering if you have ever thought of writing a heavy angst turned fluff kind of story? Do you plan on finishing the original The Fell? Every thought of writing bdsm sex scenes? Also what’s your favorite story you have written so far?

  21. Brittany April 20, 2018 at 10:50 am #

I apologize in advance if my questions repeat themselves or if one comes across as critical or negative. I’ve loved your stories since I first read Sanctuary. I have many questions, obviously, but I limited them to twenty. I will appreciate any answers you give.

    1. What is your opinion of people who write fanfiction based on your stories?
    2. What advice would you give people who want to start writing, or who want to self-publish?
    3. What was the most difficult story to write and why?
    4. What was the most enjoyable story to write and why?
    5. Were there ever any elements or plot points you discarded, and how did you decide that?
    6. How do you choose what your next story is going to be about? Are there any story ideas that you’ve never gone forward with?
    7. How were you able to write multiple stories across one universe, like Winter Haven or Abyss, that intertwined or affected one another?
    8. Do you have a job separate from writing? If so, how do you make time to write so often?
    9. You update either stories or manga daily, which is amazing. With such a strict schedule, how do you deal with things like writers’ block or personal issues that might make you not want to write for a while?
    10. Are the people in your personal life (family, friends, etc.) aware of you as an author? Do they show support for that, and how do they affect you as a writer?
    11. How did you decide to include taboo topics like incest and rape?
    12. How much research into lore is included in your writing process?
    13. Are there are any books, shows, or movies that you enjoy as a consumer that also affect you as an author?
    14. Did you ever expect to create a following of dedicated readers, and do you expect it to expand?
    15. What made you decide to create your own website rather than using an established platform, such as Wattpad or LiveJournal?
    16. How many users are there for RaytheReign.com?
    17. How did you get involved with the artists and other people you work with?
    18. What are your thoughts on your stories being adapted into a movie or TV series?
    19. How do you decide the topics that you will talk about on your podcast, and why did you choose Ever Dark as the featured story?
    20. Is there anything that you refuse to write about, like specific creatures or specific story ideas?

  22. Iico April 22, 2018 at 8:55 pm #

Hi Raythe!! You’re giving us an amazing opportunity once again!! <3

A lot of the questions I want to ask have been mentioned already, so I won't repeat them. XD

One of my burning questions I've had. Is there a place or a way to read the first drafts of your stories? Example being, you can see in The Dark Earth in the comments where people were commenting on the story before it was revised. I love where the story has ended up, but I'm also curious to see what it had started out as.

I love reading the progressions a writer makes when developing their story. You're always so thoughtful in your works, and it would be an amazing insight on how these pieces develope.

    Love always and good luck!!!!

  23. BeccaBread April 22, 2018 at 9:18 pm #

Hey Raythe! I was wondering if you had any advice for aspiring writers. How do you keep up with stories that you start to lose interest in? Did you get a degree in creative writing or did you decide to just go for writing? And this last one is slightly half serious, but how do you come up with all of your amazing characters?

Thank you for this opportunity to ask questions! I love your stories and have been subscribed for almost a year now! They really are great! Keep up the great work!

  24. Samantha April 22, 2018 at 10:22 pm #

    Greetings,

Do you plan on having some more audiobooks for example: sanctuary, neo-Tokyo, ghost half. If so I would buy them. I have a commute to school so it would definitely make it better.

Last year you spoke of a short story where main character would live next door to werewolf? When is that coming out? I can just picture the possibilities.

One of the comments I read brought back something I had been wondering. Scott and Ethen both know Nate from high school before he transferred. Ethen met UNO twice (if I remember correctly—have to reread the fell again) why doesn’t he know who he is?

Thank you so much for doing what you guys do, love your work.

  25. Keith April 23, 2018 at 8:29 am #

Have you ever considered writing a story where the main characters are villains, rather than good guys? Like, thieves or criminals or tyrants or whatever… I don’t know, could be fun, what do you think??

    • Keith April 23, 2018 at 8:38 am #

i mean obviously Maeda was a yakuza already, but he was still very much a good guy always protecting the city and people. And there are a few demons whose alter egos / previous incarnations are anything but nice, but their current identity is that of good guys, so it doesn’t really count~  I mean a story where someone like Karasu or The Fallen would be the main character 😀 (yeah I really love villains lol)

  26. Heather April 23, 2018 at 10:20 pm #

You have mentioned befor about mpreg. I was wondering if you are considering writing a story like that?

  27. Kyle Miller April 24, 2018 at 3:18 am #

Would you ever consider publishing an anthology of your short M/M stories in a paperback book form?
P.S.- I’m currently reading the Cursed Trilogy, and am so happy I got it in three paperback books. I love turning the pages, and reading 1-3 chapters before I go to bed. I’m in book #2 right now, and am in LOVE with your work. I hope more of your books end up in non-digital form. Happy writing!!!
